Like God treats us as His sons and daughters, so should a parent treat his children. One would need to adopt God’s s characteristics when raising his or her children. While it is important to raise your children and correcting them whenever they go wrong, you would need to assure them, unconditional love. God wants his children to adhere to his righteousness and so should a parent try to bring his children.
However, failure to meet the requirements of children should be treated with love. 1 John 3:1 talks about how God loves His people and calls them His children. Just like God, a parent ought to have mortal responsibility to his or her child. While parents tend to feel entitled to the moral responsibility of their children, children should be corrected with love and feel unconditional love from their parents.
Children should not be loved bases on their behavior, ability, and performance. Parents who tend to be committed to loving their children like God loves his people tend to instill the aspect of security in their children, become a role model, and mirror God’s love to their children. As a parent, one may not need to love a child based on appearance, talent, performances, or behavior. 1Sam 16:7 shows that God tends to look at the heart to measure ethics, success, attitude, and beliefs. Parents who tend to avoid the emotive judgment of their children expose them to even greater achievement.
A parent should also take child support seriously. While it is hard to tell the line between providing insufficiently, enough and in excess, the Bible teaches about providing for the household and rebukes those who do not do so, (1 Tim. 5:8). It is the parent who ought to save for their children and not children for their parents (2 Cor. 12:14)
One as a parent would also need to teach children well. It is the responsibility of the parent to teach his or her children about Godly ways, 1 Thessalonians 2:11; and 2 Timothy 1:5, 3:15 are just among the few bible teachings that give the responsibility of parents to their children. Moses also commands parents to make their children and grandchildren know God.
Prov 22:6 tells us that we should train our children in a way that they will not depart from the teachings even when they get old. A good parent should ensure that his or her child is brought up in a Godly way by drawing his or her teachings from the bible. A good parent would need to focus on teaching his children right from the most basic principles of behavior. The biblical Ten Commandments ought to be some of the teachings a parent should teach his children for the child to respect God first even before respecting others. One may also need to seek Christian teachings, Bible stories, and also draw lessons from the stories in question. Through such stories, children may have ways of teaching their children when they finally grow up and become parents. A good parent may also seek learning how to breakdown biblical information to his children. One way is through research on the internet on how to teach children biblical content. One as a parent would need to make sure that he or she uses the right teaching approach.
